Two very motivated and visionary high school students of M.E. Lazerte School in Edmonton, Alberta, organized a fundraiser for children in two war-torn countries: Sierra Leone and Palestine. They raised almost $6000.00 at a dinner and auction last month and have donated $2,800.00 to the Tamarineh Society to help us pay our teachers at the Alberta Canada Primary School. Why did they do this? “Because”, says Wedad Amir, one of the organizers, “We want to help kids in the most war-torn areas in the Middle East and Africa since they are the future and we don’t want the future to be violent.” The money donated to Palestine will help a school build a section for students with learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia. Both Wedad Amir and her fund raising partner, Janine Dhaibi, will be honored at the Tamarineh Society’s annual dinner fundraiser in January (details TBA).
